RGIA to install iris recognition tool from November

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport expansion works starting from next year will be completed by 2020 with additional terminals and runways.

Hyderabad: For the first time in India, air passengers can avoid routine checkins and security checks at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) as the authorities are introducing the face recognition and the automatic iris authentication technologies from November.

S.G.K. Kishore, chief executive officer of GMR Hyderabad Airport, said that RGIA would be the first airport in the country to implement the automatic face recognition and iris authentication technologies. For this the passenger has to register only one time.

“With the new technologies, there is no need of scanning and queues for security check-ins,” he said.

As the number of first time fliers is increasing, CEO of GMR Hyderabad Airport Limited S.G.K Kishore said, “We are taking all precautionary measurements in reducing stress in first time passengers. We are encouraging remote checks-in for first time travellers and introducing fewer manual interventions until and unless the passengers need assistance”, he said.

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport expansion works starting from next year will be completed by 2020 with additional terminals and runways.

GMR is planning an additional runway which can serve more than 3.5 crore passengers.
