DMK files plea to delete bogus voter names from the list

The last representation sent on August 7 contained full particulars and details about the entries and the ward numbers.

Chennai: DMK party has approached the Madras high court to direct the Election Commission of India and the state Chief Electoral officer to ‘purify’ the voters list pertaining to the RK Nagar Assembly constituency.

The petition filed by DMK organizing secretary R.S.Bharathi, also a member of Rajya Sabha sought to delete the double entries, absent, multiple entries, shifted, multiple voters with the same voter identification numbers and the dead in respect of RK Nagar, by constituting a special team before conducting the by-election.

Petitioner's senior counsel P.Wilson submitted that the DMK party had sent several representations to various authorities in respect of several booths alleging double entries, absent, shifted and dead which totaling more than 43,000 voters.

The last representation sent on August 7 contained full particulars and details about the entries and the ward numbers. However, due to extraneous reasons, these bogus voters were not being deleted, he added.
