Manuu V-C: Talaq is a long process
Hyderabad: Triple talaq in one sitting is against the principles of the Quran, Mr Zafar Yunus Sareshwala, Vice-Chancellor of the Maulana Azad National Urdu University, said on Wednesday. He stated that talaq in one sitting over telephone or on Whatsapp was against the principles of the Quran.
He said that according to Quran, the talaq was a long drawn process. “There is a verse on talaq and it prescribes how the process should be carried out,” he told mediapersons.“The Quran says you can marry, you can have more than one wife. But it does not say you should have more than one wife. The guidelines for divorce (like fulfilling condition of equality, condition of justice etc) are difficult so it is better not to have a second wife, according to the holy book,” the V-C said. On the Uniform Civil Code, Mr Sareshwala said that it was preposterous to raise concerns since no draft had been prepared on it.
