Travel agents were informed in advance about the changes in the departure of certain flights, he added

VISAKHAPATNAM: The international airport here and its surroundings were flooded due to incessant rains and release of excess water from Meghadrigedda Reservoir on Monday. There was water in the parking area and the approach road between the national highway and the airport.

“Water was released from Meghadri Gedda without any intimation to us. We had to reschedule departure of five flights as a precautionary measure,’’ said airport director K. Srinivasa Rao.

Talking to DC, he said there was no water in the VIP lounge, ticketing area or at the tarmac and parking bay. He said water started gushing at 11.30 am and continued to swell till 1 pm. It started receding from 4 pm, the director said.

Travel agents were informed in advance about the changes in the departure of certain flights, he added.
