Chennai: A well-planned ATM robbery attempt by two-bike borne men in Uthiramerur was foiled after they were interrupted by police on Wednesday night.

The duo had used colour spray on the CCTV cameras to avoid getting their images captured.

According to police,  the two men attempted to steal money from the ATM  owned by State Bank of India in Keera Mandapam in Uthiramerur. Police said there was no security guard at the ATM kiosk.

Two masked men dressed in black T-shirts entered the  ATM  on Wednesday night and sprayed colour on CCTV cameras.

The duo then tried to open the vault with a gas cutter machine. When the miscreants failed to break it,  they damaged the ATM machine. Meanwhile, the Kanchipuram taluk police on patrol duty noticed the men inside the ATM. The two fled the spot on seeing the cops. The patrol team found the damaged ATM and reported the case.

The Kanchipuram taluk police registered a case and have begun a search.
