Chennai: Boy killed as wall collapses on him

A portion of the roof collapsed and fell on the trio.

Chennai: An eight-year-old boy was killed and his mother and elder sister were injured in the early hours of Thursday after the roof of their house collapsed in Seven Wells area due to rain.

It may be recalled that a 42-year-old woman was killed in Mannady after a portion of the wall of her house collapsed following heavy rains a week ago.

Police said Alan (8), a class 2 student, died instantaneously due to grievous injuries he sustained as the roof of the house collapsed even as the family was sleeping.

According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday morning on Shanmugarayan Street in Seven wells.

Suresh Kumar (35), a coolie at Koyambedu market, was outside the house getting ready for work while his
wife Kalaivani (30) and their two children Mercy Angel (10) and eight-year-old Alan, were sleeping inside the house. A portion of the roof collapsed and fell on the trio. After the accident, Suresh Kumar rescued Kalaivani and Mercy from the debris, while Alan got stuck deep in the debris and died on the spot. Based on the information, fire and rescue service personnel retrieved the body of Alan and sent it to the Stanley government hospital for post-mortem. Kalaivani and Mercy Angel, who suffered injuries, were also admitted to the hospital.

The Muthialpet police registered a case and are conducting inquiries.
