Suspected Maoists paste banner
Kalpetta: A three-member gang, suspected to be Maoists, reached the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University at Pookode in Wayanad in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to the university security guard, the gang, including a woman, arrived at the main gate of the university at 3 a.m. and detained him. They returned after setting up a banner, poster and keeping an explosive-like parcel in front of the main gate. The banner called for armed struggle against state oppression.
When the guard tried to speak on his mobile phone, they snatched it from him and went away after their poster works were over.
Later, it was found that the parcel was just a hard-paper made into a cylindrical form. Kalpetta DySP Prince Abraham told DC that the trio were Maoists and that the police were trying to get more details. The Kalpetta police charged a case under various sections. The veterinary university is located close to Sugandhagiri where the police have confirmed the presence of Maoists.
