Mysuru: Kite festival, vintage car rally ahead of Dasara

A kite festival will be held at the Lalit Mahal helipad here on September 29 and 30.

Mysuru: As a prelude to the 10 -day Dasara festival, which is barely two weeks away, a kite festival will be held at the Lalit Mahal helipad here on September 29 and 30, according to district minister and Dasara executive committee head, G T Devegowda.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the executive committee, he said over 50 professional kite flyers from Ahmedabad, Surat, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Mangaluru would take part in the two-day pre-Dasara event, which will include workshops on kite making. Rock bands will provide the entertainment and food trucks will be stationed at the grounds to dish out some delicious snacks, according to deputy director of the tourism department, Janardhan.

Revealing that a vintage car rally would also be held on September 30 and October 1 as a prequel to the festival, Mr Devegowda said the much talked about mini procession of Dasara elephants accompanied by folk artistes would be taken out on October 14 on the Mysuru palace to Bannimantap ground route.

Detailing the actual events of the Dasara festival itself, he said the Yuva Dasara featuring playback singers from Sandalwood and Bollywood would be held every evening between October 11 and 17 at the Maharaja's College grounds.

"We are likely to extend invitations to Dr Sudha Narayanmurthy (of Infosys Foundation), Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy, and Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Wala on October 3 to inaugurate the festival," he added.
