Musi beautification details kept confidential

The designs also propose construction of several parks in the 430 acres of government land available.

Hyderabad: The Musi Riverfront Development Corporation (MRDC) has been keeping beautification designs confidential. Even though the Musi landscape designs had been finalised, MRDC officials did not share them with junior officials since they did not have the approval of the state government.

However, officials said that the designs were highly sophisticated and they could not be compared with the previous designs. The designs were kept secret to make sure they would not affect the environment and stop NGOs from approaching courts to halt the work prior to their commencement.

Officials hinted apart from beautiful landscapes, MRDC will construct jogging tracks, cycling tracks, walk ways, set up kiosks, foot over bridges, boating rides, green space and illumination. These works will be taken up as a pilot project to be replicated all along the entire river flow in the city. The designs also propose construction of several parks in the 430 acres of government land available. To protect the river from encroachments, the MRDC will construct retaining walls and flood protection walls in low-lying areas. The official said that the MRDC will set up 32 sewerage treatment plants to minimise water contamination. It would also use the Godavari and Krishna river water for further purification.
