Chennai: College student riding bike sans helmet dies in road mishap

Police told, both the two-wheeler were driven on a high speed and none of them wore the helmet.

Chennai: A 19-year-old student riding a motorcycle without a helmet died when he crashed into another bike near Marina Beach on Tuesday night. The pillion-rider, also without a headgear, was reportedly critically injured.

The deceased, identified as Almur Jameen (19), a resident of Mannadi Malaiappan street in Parrys, was a second year student in a popular law college in the city.

The incident happened around 10:30 pm on Tuesday night when Almur and his friend Sakim (18) were travelling towards the Broadway from Marina beach.

Police said, as they were nearing Padmanaban street, a bike coming in the opposite direction collided head-on with them. The rider of the other bike, identified as Padmanabhan, of Tondiarpet, was also reportedly riding without a helmet. The Marina patrol police rushed the badly injured trio to Rajiv Gandhi government hospital where Almur Jameen succumbed to injuries.

His friend Sakim, and Padmanabhan were still critical at the time of going to press.

Police told, both the two-wheeler were driven on a high speed and none of them wore the helmet.

The Anna Square police registered a case and started inquiries .
