University of Hyderabad students against sewage water in lakes

Hyderabad: Students are up in arms against the lake pollution in the University of Hyderabad. They have sought stoppage of sewages, polluting the lake. After a meeting between students and GHMC officials, the university authorities have decided to take action.

However, civic body’s top officials said that any attempt to block the sewage will worsen the situation. The sewage has a steady flow from five institutions and cannot be blocked without an alternate arrangement as the sewage is untreated and can lead to health hazards.

“We have undertaken a detailed study to see the toxic chemicals. Blocking the sewage may cut off the natural water supply,” said Ms D. Harichandana, zonal commissioner.
