Students perform better in coed schools: Study
Hyderabad: According to a study by Tel Aviv University, students perform better in coed schools because there is a healthy competition between the genders.
The study suggests that co-education is better than single gender schools as the presence of girls in the classroom lowers the amount of disruption and improves the academic performance of all the students.
The research was conducted in elementary, middle and high schools, in mixed classrooms. Another of its findings was that in classes with more than 55 per cent girls, the exam results were better and there were fewer violent outbursts.
Overall, both sexes benefited. The research also showed that boys and girls may learn differently, but it is better not to send them to sex segregated schools.
“Co-education is always much better than uni-gender schools because students perform better, they also have good communication skills and a lot of confidence.
“Co-education schools encourage a healthy interaction between boys and girls which is good for the development of the child,” said psychologist K. Prashant.
