Only 10 months left, didn't want new posting: Jayant M Patel

About his tenure as the senior Karnataka High Court judge, Justice Patel said that he would cherish his days of working in the State.

Bengaluru: The former senior judge of Karnataka High Court Jayant M. Patel said on Tuesday that he has resigned from his post of High Court Judge. He said that he had sent his resignation to the President on Monday afternoon and as per the law once such a resignation is sent, it’s deemed to be accepted.

He made it clear that it was not a sudden decision. “I have so far worked as a judge for 16 years and have always acted in accordance with the oath of course as a judge, wherever I was posted. It was not a sudden decision. I did so after discussing it with my family members,” Justice Patel said. Further, he said that that he had just ten months of service left in his tenure as HC judge and hence he did not desire to go the Allahabad High Court.

Lawyers’ protest
A few members of the Advocate's Association Bengaluru staged a protest on Tuesday in front of the High Court premises expressing their dissatisfaction over the Collegium's decision to transfer the senior most judge of the Karnataka High Court Justice Patel to Allahabad, ahead of the appointment of chief justice of Karnataka High Court.

The Karnataka State Bar Council also expressed its dissatisfaction over the transfer of Justice Patel. The Collegium decision to transfer the senior most judge of the Karnataka High Court to Allahabad, where he would become the third most senior judge, was unfair, the Council said.
