Nellore: The village adopted by cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar—‘Puttamraju Vari Kandriga’ of Gudur Mandal, SPSR Nellore district, has been chosen as the first ‘Green Village’ in the state of Andhra Pradesh by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

The IGBC, part of the CII, is spearheading India’s Green Building Movement. It started with the setting up of India’s first platinum rated ‘Green Building’ under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in 2001.

According to the Nellore joint collector, A. Md. Imtiaz, the IGBC has developed criteria for awarding villages that have embraced green features and sustainability. The IGBC has already done the ‘green audit’ of the Puttamarajuvari Kandriga village.
