HYDERABAD: Coca-Cola has decided to double its investments in Telangana. Coca-Cola has a large plant in Ameenpur, established by its fully-owned bottling company in India — Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB).
In 2020, HCCB invested ₹142 crores for the expansion of the plant. A greenfield plant is under construction in Siddipet district, for which the HCCB had signed an MoU with the state government on April 7, 2022, with a commitment to invest ₹ 1,000 crores.
Coca-Cola announced its expansion plans in Telangana after a meeting with Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao in New York. HCCB has committed an additional investment of ₹647 crores to install new lines in the under-construction plant which is expected to be completed by December 2024.
A second greenfield manufacturing facility of similar scale is being envisaged in the Karimnagar-Warangal region. With this new facility, Coca-Cola's investments in manufacturing capacities will exceed ₹2,500 crores. This is one of the fastest capacity expansions by Coca-Cola in recent times, Rama Rao's office said.
Rama Rao held meetings with the top management of AliveCor, Carelon, and ADM for investment in Telangana, a statement said.
He said Carlelon, an Atlanta-based health-tech Fortune 22 company), had added 8,000 highly paid jobs in Telangana in 3.5 years. The company has similar growth plans over the next 3-5 years.
Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), is one of the largest agricultural processing companies in the world and is a major exporter of food ingredients and agricultural commodities from India. ADM has expressed interest in exploring possibilities of significantly increasing their footprint in India and Telangana. The state government offered comprehensive support.
Rama Rao met Christy George, First Asst. Deputy Governor of Illinois State and Kristin Richards, Commerce Secretary along with representatives of World Business Chicago, in Chicago and discussed opportunities for collaboration in areas like clean tech, sustainable mobility, life sciences, aviation and agri sectors.
Rama Rao met Prof Madhav Ranjan, Dean of Chicago Booth School, a top-ranked business school, and invited the institution to explore the possibility of having more exchange programmes, conducting state-specific research, and establishing partnerships similar to ISB in Hyderabad.
