Hyderabad: The top reason for deaths in the 15 to 44 age group is road accidents, in which most times it is the breadwinner of the family who loses his life.
About 50 per cent of accident victims are in the age group of 15 to 45 and 76 per cent are in the group of 15 to 60 years. Among the many victims, in January, a 24-year-old ambulance driver, B. Shiva Shankara Vara Prasad, who was carrying patients met with an accident and died at Bonguluru on the Outer Ring Road.
He was the only breadwinner of the family who comprised his wife and daughters one of whom was two years old and the other nine months.
Ms B. Rani Kumari, who lost her husband in a fatal accident, said, “After my husband died in a car accident, I could not recover from the shock for long but there were two young boys that I have to take care. With much difficulty I overcame the situation. It’s still too nightmarish to recall.”
