COIMBATORE: Tension prevailed for the fifth day in Coimbatore as places of worship still remain under intensive police surveillance.

Police along with commandoes was deployed on duty round-the-clock few days ago across the state especially in sensitive cities including Coimbatore, following an intelligence report that six LeT terrorists had infiltrated into the state through Sri Lanka with a plan of serial blasts across the state similar to the Sri Lankan blast that took place last April, targeting places of worship.

As many as 2,000 armed guards are already posted at strategic points like check posts where they are engaged in intensified vehicle checks to prevent the entry of extremists, at Coimbatore airport, railway junction and bus stands including major junctions and crowded public places including malls and theaters in the city and suburbs with 4 tier security.

Additional police are deployed on duty at the police control rooms where monitors of many CCTV surveillance cameras installed at various parts of the city are connected.

People were thoroughly checked with metal detectors before being allowed into places of worship like churches and temples. However, people went about their work as usual.
