Bengaluru: IPS officer passes away after organ failure

Ramesh, who is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter, was ill and was undergoing treatment at the BGS Hospital for the last 15 days.

Bengaluru: A 2005-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer R Ramesh, 54, died of multiple organ failure at BGS Hospital in the city on Monday.

Ramesh was serving as the Director Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Planning and Modernisation.

Ramesh, who is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter, was ill and was undergoing treatment at the BGS Hospital for the last 15 days. His condition started deteriorating and he failed to respond to the treatment on Monday morning.

His mortal remains were kept for public viewing and later the body was shifted to Mylanahalli near Dobbaspete at around 2 pm. He was cremated near Shivagange Betta at around 4 pm.

Ramesh joined Karnataka state police in 2000 and has served in various capacities during his postings in Karkala, Chintamani, Sagar, and Dakshina Kannada.

He was promoted to the IPS rank in 2005. He had served in North Karnataka and in the Intelligence department besides being DCP CCB (Crime) before he was promoted to the DIG rank in January 2018 and posted as Commandant, Home Guards & Civil Defence Academy, Bengaluru.
