AP High Court nod for CBI probe on mining

The State Government booked cases under relevant Sections and started an inquiry and found his complicity in illegal mining activities.

VIJAYAWADA: AP High Court has given a green signal for conduct of CBI probe against former TD MLA from Gurazala in Guntur district Yarapathineni Srinvasa Rao, who has been facing allegations of involvement in illegal mining of limestone in Palnadu area of Guntur district, during its hearing held on Monday.

Following a writ filed by former MLC T.V.G. Krishna Reddy in the High Court earlier, it ordered the State Government to take steps to stop illegal mining activity.

However, Rao continued his illegal activities in an undeterred way. Subsequently, the State Government booked cases under relevant Sections and started an inquiry and found his complicity in illegal mining activities.

Later, based on a petition filed by the State Government, the High Court had given permission to conduct a CBI inquiry on illegal mining activities of former legislator Rao. However, the HC had given choice to the State Government whether to go for a CBI inquiry in the case or not and asked the State Government to inform it about its decision by Wednesday.
