Water board blames too old pipelines for contamination
Hyderabad: The HMWS&SB officials have attributed the complaints of water pollution to the old pipelines laid decades ago in the southern parts of the city. This apart, the officials have said that water supply lines in several areas pass through drainage and storm water channels.
“When the dirty water channels get chocked the water seeps into the drinking water lines. Whenever such cases are reported, we immediately take steps and as a temporary measure supply water through tankers,” Mohd Khader Mohiuddin, General Manager, (Engineering) Goshamahal, O &M Division No.1 said.
The HMWS&SB on an average receives at least three complaints of water pollution from various areas of the old city. “To tide over the problem, work worth '5 crore was sanctioned recently. On priority basis, we are identifying the affected areas and beginning the work. Soon the problem will subside,” he explained.
The official further added that the residents were also to be blamed for using inferior quality water supply pipes for domestic supply lines.
