Traders demand helping hand

Instead of extending a helping hand, they have been getting attacked by goons in the name of isolated incidents of hiking prices of essentials.

Kozhikode: Traders lament that the state government showering empathy on all in flood-hit zones is yet to turn its eye on them.

Instead of extending a helping hand, they have been getting attacked by goons in the name of isolated incidents of hiking prices of essentials.

Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi president T. Nasruddin said thousands of traders had been affected by the floods.

"We are the most affected," he told Deccan Chronicle. "Our chief minister is extending support to all but no traders. We have met him, and he had promised to compensate for losses."

They are now on a survey to assess the magnitude of their losses. The state committee will make an inventory for each district at a meeting here on Monday.

"Strict measures are essential as building owners are preventing the repair of damaged shops," he said. "Angamaly-Chalakudy and Paravoor -Njarakkal stretches need special attention."

On the daylight robbery in shops, he said though they had provided its visuals to the police, it took no action so far.
