Snehapoorvam Kozhikode for immediate aid
Kozhikode: The district administration on Friday launched Snehapoorvam Kozhikode project in a bid to ensure immediate help to those who have returned from relief camps to their houses. As per the project any person can help a family with essentials of about 15 items including utensils, knives, spoons, bed, bedsheets, chairs, pillows, blankets, etc.
A 24-hour call centre has been set up to provide assistance to the generous to be connected with the needy, district collector U.V. Jose said in a press release.
Soon after the announcement of the project, 46 persons expressed willingness to join the project so far to extend support to families in distress, he added.
The 24/7 helpline desk constituted by the district administration on Friday received as many as 516 calls so far, of which 291 calls were resolved. Among the calls, 54 were for repairing of electronic gadgets.
In the past few days, the district successfully activated the service of 2,500 volunteers for the relief mission who ensured cleaning, packing of relief material and distribution to far-flung spots were ensured.
On Onam day, the help- desk constituted to cater to the flood-hit families was in full action who sacrificed Onam celebrations for the well-being of the flood victims.
Apart from district collector U.V. Jose, ministers T.P. Ramakrishnan and A.K. Saseendran ensured their presence at the help desk (04936 - 2378860, 2378870) expressing solidarity with those 12 youngsters who sacrificed the joys of Onam for attending the phone calls of people in distress.
