Kochi: The helpline created by Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) for helping to rescue the flood-affected people has stopped functioning from Friday after working for a week.
According to Dr. TV Sajeev, Principal Scientist of KFRI, the helpline coordinated thousands of telephone calls and 326 requests for rescue including directly coordinating 30 rescue mission comprising three airlifting and 68 boat assists. The helpline helped for the rescue 853 persons. Apart from this the helpline also coordinated supply of food and medicines and located 12 missing persons.
Dr Sajeev expressed thanks to CSIR-NIST research scholars Jayahari, Leslie, Yamini, Manoj and Balakrishnan, colleagues in KFRI, friends who shared information online, National Disaster Rescue Force members and fisher folks friends who sought information 24x7 to make the helpline a success. The researchers operating the helpline went home on Friday.
