Donate 1 month salary: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Malayalis all over world urged to contribute towards rebuilding Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has appealed to Malayalis across the globe to contribute one month’s salary towards rebuilding a new Kerala. The Chief Minister also suggested that three days salary could be given in a month for ten months so that the contribution could be made without feeling much burden.

“Malayalis are there across the globe. I appeal that they may consider contributing one month salary towards rebuilding Kerala. The state government is expecting the cooperation of all Malayalis in tiding over this situation. The government will welcome all those who come forward to support the state,” the Chief Mini-ster said here on Sunday.

Mr Vijayan said that the government’s aim was to build a new Kerala and not rebuilding the flood affected parts alone. It would be a challenging task to achieve this. But government was determined and confident in achieving this, the Chief Minister said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister reviewed the relief activities on Sunday and found that over three lakh houses were cleaned. A total of 4.62 lakh people were still staying at 1,435 relief camps across the state and there was sufficient food stock for the camps. Chief Minister directed that all relief camps working in schools should be relocated to other nearby places. District collectors were directed to take private premises on rent if required and even vacant houses may be used. The schools would be cleaned with the help of education department officials.

Since waste management of the camps have become a major concern, the review meeting directed local bodies to immediately identify places for keeping non bio-degradable waste and the Clean Kerala Company should collect it at the earliest. Service of private companies could be also sought if required.

The death toll in the calamity since August 8 has so far reached 302. About 3.81 lakh birds and animals were also reported dead, said an official statement.
