Mangaluru: A week after the landslide, Jodupala, Devara Kolli and nearby villages are limping back to normalcy.
Jodupala in Kodagu district witnessed a massive landslide on August 17 following which people of Jodupala and nearby villages were shifted to three temporary relief camps on the Dakshina Kannada-Kodagu border.
Due to the landslide on NH 275, Jodupala was cut off from Madikeri. However a bus service has been started on the alternate road. "The bus service connecting Jodupala to Madikeri has been started via Sullia-Bhagamandala,” Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil told Deccan Chronicle.
Though the alternate route is longer, it will connect the people of Jodupala, Devara Kolli and nearby villages with their district headquarters. A team of officials including Kodagu CEO visited Jodupala and also the temporary relief camps on Saturday evening. As the landslide washed away electric poles and lines, officials have started restoration work too, which has been completed in Devara Kolli till Koynad. Meanwhile with the situation returning to normal, about 86 families have moved to their villages from the three temporary relief camps.
A second consignment of relief material including food, clothing and other daily needs were sent by the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority on Saturday. It was flagged off by Minister of Housing U.T. Khader. These material were being collected at the Karnataka Polytechnic College at Kadri. The relief material sent to Kodagu included rice, wheat, salt, cooking oil, sugar, cloth, toothpaste, towels, umbrellas and others.
