Chennai: Cops suspended for death of student after interrogation
Chennai: A day after a college student was found dead near a railway track in Ponneri, the inspector and a constable were suspended on Sunday.
The student was interrogated by the RPF in connection with a theft case, on Saturday, before he was found dead. The deceased, R. Mouleeshwaran (22) of Chinnakavanam village near Ponneri, was a second-year student at a government college in the locality. On Saturday, RPF inspector Ankath Kumar and constable Vinay Kumar had apprehended him on suspicion in connection with a theft case and interrogated him.
He was found dead between Elavur and Gummidipoondi railway stations on the same evening. On information, Korukkupet railway police retrieved his body and sent it to Ponneri government hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Mouleeshwaran’s father Ravi lodged a complaint seeking action against those responsible for his son’s death at Korukkupet railway police as well Ponneri police station. While Gummidipoondi railway police have suspended Ankath Kumar and Vinay Kumar, Ponneri police have registered a case on Ravi’s complaint and initiated investigation.
Earlier, Mouleeshwaran’s parents and friends laid siege to the Revenue Tahsildar Office in Ponneri and later staged a rail-blockade at Ponneri railway station on Sunday. The post-mortem of Mouleeshwaran’s body was held in the presence of Ponneri magistrate after which the body was handed over to his family.
