Aid starts pouring in for weavers

Kochi: A few NGOs have come forward to extend a helping hand to the 300-odd weavers in Chendamangalam to revive their looms and raw materials lost in the floods.

In the pilot phase, two women weavers, Mini Jayan and Philomena, were given Rs 15,000 each on Sunday to repair their looms.
Deccan Chronicle had on Friday reported their pathetic condition and stressed the need for the government’s immediate intervention to bring back the impoverished weavers.
Gopalji Foundation that helped repair looms will also give Rs 20,000 to the Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society to provide yarn for the two.
