Rains wreck Hyderabad roads

People spent sleepless night in many colonies.

Hyderabad: Roads bore the brunt of the rains on Friday as many of them got eroded and potholes increased in size due to water gushing from all sides.

The newly laid black top eroded at many places. At Madinaguda NH 65 in Chanda Nagar circle, the main road has broken completely mid-way. School buses and motorists had a tough time. Motorists were seen vying for the dried patches on the road.

Roads were damaged at many places from Balanagar to BHEL. The main road from ISB to Biodiversity Park was damaged as the newly laid black top was washed away.

New critical stagnation points have been identified by GHMC officials. They are: NTR Stadium junction, Ashok Nagar bridge, Lingampally under bridge, Pochamma temple at Borabunda , Galaxy Hotel at Himayat Nagar , Road Number 36 at Jubilee Hills, JVN School near RTC cross road, Salarjung Museum at Pathergatti , Begum Bazaar and Saifabad.

The Punjagutta and Malakpet flyover were inundated and it was clo-sed on Friday night. The road in the Old City near Kalapather, Tolichowki and Bandlaguda sustained extensive damage due to the heavy rains. Motorists faced problems from Tallabkatta to Bibi Bazaar as it was dug up for laying pipes. At the Golconda area, potholes widened, making it difficult for motorists.

The police station road at Fateh Darwaza had many potholes from the previous rains and the rains on Friday further aggravated the situation.

Drainage water came out near Kapra Lake inlet, leaving silt on the road and breaking the inlet road into pieces. The Kapra inlet area has only one drainage and roads leading to colonies were broken at four places. The residents have been complaining about the damage. However, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

Swarna Raj, corporator of the area, said, “With the support of residents, I have been following up this case with zonal officers. They visited the site on Saturday morning and instructed the Kapra office to carry out the works immediately.”
