Illegal hoardings: Pay Rs 10,000 or face jail term, says Chennai collectorate

The press release also requested public to give details on unauthorised hoardings in Chennai through its helpline - 044-25268320.

Chennai: A day after revenue officials warned house owners at Velachery for allowing their terrace to erect illegal hoardings, the Chennai collectorate again on Friday warned that several private building owners are permitting advertisement agencies to erect unauthorised hoardings across Chennai.

A collectorate press release said bill boards without getting permission from district collector are illegal and will lead to criminal proceedings under Chennai city municipal corporation Act, 1919(section 326-1).

Under the Act, offenders will be imprisoned for a term extending up to three years for contravention and a fine which may extend to Rs 10,000 or both.

The press release also requested public to give details on unauthorised hoardings in Chennai through its helpline - 044-25268320.
