DySP MK Ganapati case: CID grills KJ George for 3 hours
Bengaluru: Former home minister K.J. George was grilled by the CID sleuths for more than three hours on Friday in connection with DySP M.K. Ganapati’s suicide case. George reportedly answered no for most of the questions asked by the interrogators.
The CID had issued notice to the former minister on Thursday asking him to appear before the investigating agency as part of the probe. Mr George went to the CID office on Palace Road around 3 pm. It is learnt that ADGP Pratap Reddy and IGP Hemant Nimbalkar questioned him in connection with the case.
“He was given a questionnaire with more than 100 questions. For most of the questions, he has answered no. The questions were related to the allegations made by Ganapati in the video statement he gave to TV channels before taking the extreme step.
Mr George said that Ganapati had approached him twice to discuss about postings, but he had told him that he could not interfere in police transfers. Also, he claimed that he never discussed anything related to Mangaluru Church attack incidents with Ganapati,” an official source said.
Further, Mr George told the interrogators that he was not aware of the departmental inquiries against Ganapati and never interfered in his transfer or promotions matters.
While returning from the CID office, Mr George told reporters that he was summoned by the CID officials and thus he appeared before them. “I cannot reveal what I have told them as the investigation is still on. I will cooperate with the ongoing investigations,” he added.
It may be recalled that Ganapati had accused Mr George of harassing him. Following a court direction to register FIR against Mr George and two other senior IPS officers, the Madikeri police had booked the former minister as accused number one in the case and had charged him with abetment of suicide.
Owing to pressure from opposition parties demanding his resignation as minister, as a FIR was registered against him, Mr George had resigned on July 18.
