Doppler radar fixed, weather uncertainty continues
Hyderabad: The IMD again issued a yellow warning on Tuesday for the districts near Hyderabad such as Ranga Reddy, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy. There was no alert for Hyderabad itself.
The alert was also extended to the districts of Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadadri Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, Warangal (Rural) and Warangal (Urban), where heavy rains was likely to occur at isolated places.
On Tuesday, Vikarabad recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 129.1 mm.
As on Monday, the IMD said the city would have generally cloudy sky and have light to moderate rains or thunder showers with intense spells at times are very likely to occur in the next 48 hours.
Despite Monday’s prediction, the city experienced heavy rain on Tuesday. Rajendranagar recorded 41.5 mm rainfall.
Asked about this, and reports that the Doppler radar used to predict the rain had stopped working, an official of the IMD said the equipment had been fixed four days ago, On the question of inaccuracy in the weather predictions, the official requesting anonymity said, “The Doppler radar only gives weather predictions for the same day and not the forecast. As the weather changes rapidly, it is challenging to give an accurate prediction based on any model.”
