Thiruvananthapuram: 18,298 engineering seats vacant

Of the total 33,012 government quota seats, 14,714 were allotted to engineering colleges.

Thiruvananthapuram: There are 18,298 vacant engineering seats, mostly in private self-financing colleges, after the third round of allotment conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations.

Of the total 33,012 government quota seats, 14,714 were allotted to engineering colleges.

In 59 colleges, 127 batches did not get even a single student. Of them four engineering colleges did not have any student and three have just one student after the third and last round of allotment for private engineering colleges, sources said.

The colleges with no admissions are Mukundapuram Sree Ernakulathappan College of Engineering and Management, Mukundapuram, Thrissur, Axis College of Engineering, Kodakara, St Thomas College of Engineering, Kattaikonam, and Vedavyasa College of Engineering, Malappuram.

Colleges with one student are Kottayam Institute of Technology and Science, Pallikathodu, K.R. Gouri Amma College of Engineering for Women, Cherthala, and Matha College of Engineering, North Paravur.There are a total of 54,225 seats and only government quota seats are allotted from the counselling conducted by the commissioner for entrance examinations. The management quota and NRI seats are conducted by the managements. The total number of vacant seats will be clear only when the statistics related to management and NRI seats are available.

12 engineering colleges, part of the allotment pool last year, do not feature in this year's admissions as they have either shut down or have been placed in the no-admission category. The colleges that will not admit students include Archana College of Engineering, Palamel,Alappuzha; Aryanet Institute of Technology, Pudupari yaram, Palakkad; KMP College of Engineering, Cherukunnam, Perumbavoor; KVM College of Engineering, Cherthala; Mukambika Technical Campus,

Edappally; Pankajakashturi College of Engineering, Kandala, Thiruvananthapuram; Pinnacle College of Engineering Anchal; Prime College of Engineering, Erattayal, Palakkad; Shahul Hameed Engineering College, Kadakkal.
