Telangana: Fewer road accidents this year
HYDERABAD: The number of road accidents has fallen during the first seven months of this year compared to 2016. The number of deaths in mishaps has come down by about 25 per cent. Till July 24 this year, 170 people had died in road accidents and 1,039 injured. In all of last year, 405 people had died and 1,990 injured in road accidents.
According to the traffic police, more accidents occur on Sundays and Mondays. Most victims are in the 25-30 age group, followed by 20-25 years old. Hyderabad Traffic Police DCP A.V. Ranganath said, “This reduction is mainly because of the wearing of helmets and the road engineering initiatives undertaken. These initiatives have also reduced the number of pedestrian casualties. We are intensifying the drive to implement the helmet rule.”
