NABARANGPUR (ODISHA): A pregnant woman of Pahnari Kumuda under Umerkote block in Nabarangpur district was on Tuesday night carried in a sling amid heavy spells of rain as ambulance couldn’t reach the village due to deteriorated road conditions. While on the way to hospital, the woman gave birth to a baby boy midway.
According to reports, Raju Santa’s wife Kalabati complained of labour pain Tuesday night following which her family members called an ambulance to carry her to the hospital. However, the ambulance couldn’t reach the village due to deteriorated road condition, which had further worsened due to incessant rainfall.
The vehicle remained 4 km away from the village and was unable to proceed ahead. Left with no other option, the villagers carried the woman in a sling for 4 km. However, she delivered a baby boy on the way. The woman was later carried by the ambulance to Umerlote hospital, where the conditions of the newborn and the mother are stated to be stable.
