Mandya horror: Dog drags away newborn's body
Mysuru: An abandoned newborn baby girl’s body was carried away by a stray dog on the premises of Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences on Wednesday morning horrifying passersby, who chased away the dog.
Mandya District Health Officer Mohan formed three teams to trace the parents by checking deliveries and to find out if any baby was missing. Later, the baby’s parents were found to be Samiullah and Rizwana from Koppa in Mandya district.
“Rizwana was eight months pregnant when she arrived at the hospital around 3 pm on Tuesday. Her ultrasound scan report revealed intra-uterine death of the baby (baby dead in the womb). After the delivery, the baby’s body was handed over to the relatives on Tuesday evening,” Resident Medical Officer of MIMS Dr Sanjay said.
Samiullah told the police that he had taken the baby’s body in a bag and was waiting near the hospital for his friend to take the body for cremation. As he was waiting, his first child, a girl, asked for food. Samiullah left the bag at the spot and went to a nearby shop to get some bread.
By the time he returned, the dog had carried away the bag with the baby’s body and the people gathered.
Scared that the police would harass him, he kept quiet. But he later accepted the fact that it was their child, the police said.
Based on a complaint by MIMS authorities, the Mandya East police have registered a case of unnatural death. The baby’s body was handed over to the relatives after autopsy at MIMS.
