Kerala High Court wants Nisham's mental health report
Kochi: Kerala High Court on Wednesday asked the state to submit a medical report on the mental health of Muhammed Nisham serving a life sentence for Chandra Bose murder.
The court issued the directive on a petition filed by P. V. Abdul Khader, a close relative, who said he found Nisham mentally ill when he visited him in the Central Prison, Viyyur, on July 14.
He failed to recognise him and was violent and unresponsive. He was in a paranoid state, he argued.
The petitioner also submitted that he may attack others or even hurt himself, so there was an urgent need to provide him expert treatment.
The petition sought to take steps to ensure that the psychiatric treatment was provided to him.
He was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment for causing the death of the guard with his Hummer at Sobha City, a posh township in Thrissur.
The court meanwhile refused to consider a plea seeking the release of the Hummer and observed that it was not a vehicle involved in an accident but used as a murder weapon. Bangalore native Kiran Rajeev, who owns it, moved the court.
