Hyderabad: If you are booked for drunken driving during the day, you could be given a jail sentence for a longer duration than being booked at night.
The traffic police on Tuesday pleaded with magistrates to increase the prison term in case of motorists being booked for drunken driving during the day.
“The magistrates have agreed to our request in principle.
“We explained to the magistrates that driving under the influence of alcohol during the day was dangerous for more people as road users are more compared to night.
“For example, if a motorist is being sentenced to a week’s imprisonment for drunken driving at night, it would be two weeks or even more for being booked during the day,” said deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) A.V. Ranganath.
