Telangana HC Rules Against Alienating College Land for Meat and Vegetable Complex

Hyderabad: The division bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji restrained the Nalgonda district collector from alienating 1 acre and 34 guntas belonging to the Government Junior College for Boys, located in Survey No.s 751/2 and 757/2, Devarakonda, for a vegetable and meat marketing complex.

The Nalgonda collector on December 9 last had directed the Devarakonda tahsildar to hand over the land to the municipal authorities who were told to take possession of the land and complete the construction of the marketing complex.

Local resident Tutupalli Ravi Kumar filed a PIL and stated that the college was established 50 years ago on 9 acres of land donated by one Thanam Buchyalu and 2 acres by Seelam Venkanna to run educational institutions.

Tera Rajnikanth Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, said more than 1,000 students were studying in the schools, mostly belonging to the ST community, as Devarakonda is surrounded by small villages and thandas.

The Chief Justice bench issued notices to the Chief Secretary, revenue principal secretary, commissioner of Intermediate education, Nalgonda collector and principal of the junior College, asking them to furnish reasons for alienating the land, though the commissioner of Intermediate education has opposed the decision.
