Telangana refutes dip in govt school students count

State government submitted to the High Court that the admissions into state-run schools had e increased.

Hyderabad: Condemning the reports claiming that the students ratio in government schools has been falling every year and the learning outcome has not been satisfactory, the state government submitted to the High Court that the admissions into state-run schools had e increased.

On being directed by the court, director of the school education Vijaya Kumar submitted a sworn affidavit before the High Court explaining that the secondary education department had commenced implementation of the continuous and comprehensive evaluation system to assess the learning ability of every student and to take up measures to improve their performance thereafter.

A division bench, comprising the then Chief Justice Radhakrishnan and Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy had earlier directed the secondary school education department to submit a comprehensive affidavit elucidating the steps taken to enhance the performance of the students and the modalities which the SCERT had suggested for immediate rectification of the deficits noticed in the teaching.

The bench passed the direction while it was dealing with the Public Interest Litigation petition filed by MV Foundation convener R. Venkat Reddy in March 2019, who was concerned over the teaching conditions in government schools.

He said the teaching and the consequent learning process could eventually prove a great threat to democracy. Responding to the court's direction, the director filed an affidavit stating that apart from the regular classes, the state has been providing digital lessons to students by telecasting Mana TV in secondary schools. He submitted that the department has engaged a cluster resource in-charge for every 18 schools to assess the quality of education.
