Minority body jobs unpopular

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to convene a meeting about this next Monday.

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has started searching for Muslim officers to be transferred to minority organisations as key bodies like the Haj Committee, Urdu Academy, Study Circle, Survey Commission of Auqaf and Minorities Corporation have no regular heads.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to convene a meeting about this next Monday.

The shortage of high-ranked Muslim officers in the government has created an undesirable situation. Though there is no compulsion, except in the case of the Wakf Board, the government prefers to appoint Muslim officers to these posts as they deal with minorities’ affairs. Non-Muslim officers are not interested in working in these organisations.

There are a few officers left who are eligible to be posted as heads of the institutions but most of them are not willing to take the responsibility.

Those who had worked in these organisations earlier are not ready to come back again in the light of their past bitter experiences.

Secretary, Telangana Minorities Education Institutions Society, B. Shafiullah has the additional charges of the Haj Committee, the Urdu Academy and the Minorities Study Circle.

Ms A.H.N. Kanthi Wesley, managing director of Christian Minorities Finance Corporation, has the additional charge as vice-chairperson and managing director of Minorities Finance Corporation.

The functioning of these institutions is impeded in the absence of regular authorities as the officers who hold additional charge in these organisations have no time for monitoring in addition to their regular duties resulting in many welfare schemes being impaired.

It is learnt that the adviser to the government A.K. Khan has briefed the Chief Minister about the unwillingness of officers to accept posts in minorities’ organisations.

The CM is likely to convene a meeting next Monday and will take a decision in this regard.
