International Yoga Day observed at schools across state

Vivid programmes mark-ed the day at Toc H Public School, Vyttila.

Kochi: Schools across the state observed the International Yoga Day with a variety of activities on Friday. Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi School, Thrissur, which has included yoga in its curriculum, combined it with the Music Day celebrations. At the school assembly, students struck Yoga postures with a special musical score played in the background. Different musical instruments were played and Carnatic and fusion songs were performed by students on the occasion.

Pragati Academy, Perumbavoor, joined the Excise Department to observe the day. Secretary-general of National Council of CBSE Schools Indira Rajan took a class on ‘Yoga for heart’ on the occasion. School principal Suchitra Shyjinth and excise preventive officer V.R. Prathap spoke. The Yoga Day was celebrated at TGM Vidyaniketan, Vaikom, with colourful programmes. School principal Sreedevi Antharjanam presided. The function was inaugurated by Kottayam district Yoga association executive member and national referee A. K. Bharathan. TGM students performed Yoga postures.

The 5th International Yoga Day was celebrated in a grand manner at the auditorium of Chinmaya Scho-ol, Vaduthala. Students of Class XII who led the assembly remarked on the positive influence of Yoga on both physical and mental faculties. A live demonstration of various asanas was performed by the students of Classes V and VIII. Yogacharya S Aiyappan was present on the occasion. Going with the UN message of “Yoga for Clim-ate Action”, students planted five neem saplings at the school on the same day.

Vivid programmes mark-ed the day at Toc H Public School, Vyttila. The students of Classes 6, 7 and 8 displayed various postures of yoga. Simultaneously spectators were given detailed description about each asana and its impact on body. A special tutoring session on Yoga for students and staff of the institution also took place. It was formally inaugurated by Toc H Public School founder director & manager Dr. K Varghese. Students of SBOA Public Sr Secondary School, South Chittoor, celebrated Yoga day stressing on the importance of its salubrious effect on the body and mind. Arun Sharma, the course coordinator of Pathanjali Yoga and Research Centre, was the chief guest. Principal Mrs Sreekala Karunakaran, and headmistress Mrs Priya Menon addressed the students. The members of the Yoga team, NCC cadets, Scouts and Guides participated in the demonstration.

Saraswathi Vidyanike-than Public School, Elama-kkara, in association with Pathanjali Yoga Research & Training Centre celebrated the day at Bhaskareeyam Convention Centre. Former Vice Chief of Army Lieu-tenant General (retd.) Sara-th Chand graced the occasion. Kaithapram Vasudev-an Namboothiri, president, Pathanjali Yoga Research & Training Centre and its secretary M.L. Rameshan, H.Raja, national secretary, BJP and A Chenthamara-kshan, principal of the school, were present on the occasion. A total of 350 students took part.
