Heavy rain causes flight delays at Chennai airport

Three domestic flights were diverted to Bengaluru and Tiruchy while seven departures were delayed for nearly two hours.

Chennai: Flight operations were delayed at Chennai airport on Wednesday evening following heavy rain. Three domestic flights were diverted to Bengaluru and Tiruchy while seven departures were delayed for nearly two hours.

An Air Asian flight with 107 passengers on board came from Bengaluru international airport to Chennai at 6. 30 am. However, due to heavy rain with the wind at the Chennai airport, visibility becomes poor, which lead the aircraft to return to Bengaluru airport. The passengers after two-hour wait at Bengaluru airport were sent back to Chennai at around 8. 30 pm.

Similarly, a Thoothukudi bound Indigo flight that was scheduled to land at 6: 35 pm at Chennai Airport was diverted to Trichy airport, while another indigo airlines with 140 passengers on board from Kolkatta landed after two hours of delay. Around 7 departures from Chennai to Mumbai, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Bengaluru, Dubai, Hyderabad and Delhi were also delayed due to the adverse weather conditions.
