Cleaning drive at General Hospital by ‘Oruma’ activists

The organization has 40 members who were formerly addicted to injection drugs and now undergoes OS therapy.

Kozhikhode: In connection with International Day against Drug Abuse, "Oruma" a collective of members undergoing treatment for Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) organised a seminar and cleaning drive in the premises of Government General Hospital, Beach here on Wednesday. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Ummer Farooq inaugurated the cleaning drive.

"This is our first initiative since our inauguration. The success of this programme has inspired us to organise many more activities. We are planning to conduct classes in educational institutions." Oruma general secretary P.Muhammed Koya said. In coordination with the Centre for Social Research and Development (CSRD), this collective started functioning last month.

"Along with rehabilitation programmes, we decided to organise social service activities in General Hospital. Financial aid will be provided to poor patients admitted here. Oruma president N.P. Saidalavi said.

The organization has 40 members who were formerly addicted to injection drugs and now undergoes OS therapy. "The comeback of the Oruma members from drugs literally deserves appreciation and an inspiration to the next generation. We will continue to provide all kinds of cooperation" CSRD Project Manager Jain John said. A signature campaign regarding drug abuse awareness was also conducted.
