THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major relief to many staying away from their homes, the Centre has announced that residents of any part of the country could hereafter submit application for passports any any of the Passport Seva Kendra in the country, irrespective of their place of residence.
A facility to apply for passport using mobile phone app was also announced by the Centre. The decisions, which were announced by external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi on Tuesday, would be of help to many Keralites working in other parts of the country.
According to the sources, the applicants can apply for passport over the Passport Seva App and submit the documents in any of the PSKs. The police would be checking only the criminal back ground of the applicants and the passport will be sent only to the address given in the application. The Minister also said that at present there are 260 working passport centres and it would be expanded to all Lok Sabha constituencies in near future.
