Go after drug traffickers: Karnataka police chief
Bengaluru: State police chief DG & IGP Neelmani Raju on Tuesday urged police officials to prioritise cases related to drug abuse, sale and trafficking in the city as well as the state.
She told them to break the chain of demand and supply to ensure a drug free society.
On Tuesday, on the International Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking day, the police top brass organised a seminar for police inspectors and Assistant Commissioners of Police of the city commissionerate.
In her address, Raju said the detection of drug cases have taken a back seat, with priority being given to crime prevention and maintenance of law and order.
She said the police should go after those involved in drug trafficking and sales, rather than drug abusers or addicts. The DG&IGP also urged her men to keep an eye on schools and colleges, including private ones, where the police have information about existence of drug cartels.
The police chief also spoke about the importance of collection of samples, evidence, taking technical help and FSL reports and prepare water tight cases before approaching courts. Even a minor mistake could help convicts go scot free, she warned.
A workshop led by ADGP (crime) M.A. Saleem, P. Harisekaran, IGP (central range), Bengaluru focused on emerging trends and challenges in fighting drug trafficking in India and abroad, the modus operandi used by traffickers, common errors made by police officers while investigating with NDPS cases.
An intelligence officer from Zonal NCB Bengaluru took classes about the variety of drugs in their zone and how to deal with the menace.
