Fish from Andhra Pradesh won't be sold in Kerala: AKFMCAA

The decision follows Monday's seizure of some 9,600 kg of formalin-laced fish, 7,000 kg of them prawns.

KOZHIKODE: All Kerala Fish Merchant and Commission Agents Association (AKFMCAA) will not sell fish from Andhra Pradesh anymore. The decision follows Monday's seizure of some 9,600 kg of formalin-laced fish, 7,000 kg of them prawns. The food safety authorities have so far seized 21,600 kg of fish with the hazardous chemical in three hauls this month at three major checkpoints.

A high-level meeting health minister held in the state capital earlier in the morning had decided to tighten vigil against contaminated fish at checkpoints and markets. “There's a massive campaign against fish sold in Kerala on the social media, which is baseless,” AKFMCAA president KPMK Kunju told reporters here.

"Fish is among the most favourite food of Malayalis. This massive campaign is affecting the sales in overall." He claimed that they are not selling the fish laced with formalin in the markets. "Officials should ensure that toxic fishes did not reach the state. We comply with the government policies," he said.
