Hyderabad: Wrong parking fee to be enhanced by September

This is to discourage commuters from leaving their vehicles on the roads or at unauthorised parking sites.

Hyderabad: In the next 2-3 months, the traffic police will be enhancing the penalty for wrong parking of vehicles. This is to discourage commuters from leaving their vehicles on the roads or at unauthorised parking sites. The department has asked the GHMC to stop allocating contracts and make parking free at all locations as this will encourage motorists to use the parking lots. There is also a proposal to upgrade unauthorised spots where people park their vehicles into legal parking lots.

The hike in penalty will be part of the new parking policy which will soon take shape. “The idea is not to punish motorists or to extract money but to discourage indisciplined parking behaviour. The penalty will help deter motorists and avoid congestion on roads,” DCP Traffic, Mr A.V. Ranganath said.

Recently, the New Delhi Municipal Council removed the current cap of Rs 100 for vehicles that are parked for longer hours. Earlier, those parking their vehicles at allocated locations had to pay Rs 20 per hour for the first five hours and a flat rate of Rs 100 beyond that. As per the new plan, users will have to pay extra charges on per hour basis. This is being seen as a move to force motorists to use public transport.svv
