Hyderabad Metro Rail seeks critical Telangana government help

HMR officials have listed several issues and sought help from the government.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metro Rail project is facing problems in critical areas. HMR officials have listed several issues and sought help from the government.

HMR said the completion of work on the Begumpet Metro Rail station was being delayed as they could not get permission for complete road closure on the other side of Country Club.

A traffic management plan was approved for the Begumpet Metro station on December 3, 2016. HMR has work pending on the lower concourse level, pier arm beams and slab casting on the other side of Country Club.

HMR said complete road closure was required for completion of work on the station. Sequential permissions would only delay progress of work on the project. The authorities have requested the state government’s support for complete road closure.

Closure of the arterial road which sees lakhs of vehicles moving up and down seems unlikely, if not impossible. Compounding the problem is the lack of roads that can handle the volume of traffic.

In Stage 3, permission is required from the South Central Railways for compound wall demolition, shifting of railway utilities and retrenchment of trees for the Secunderabad Metro Rail station.

In Stage 4, the works are affected due to property issues. Work was taken up on February 13 at Sri Sampada area after getting owners’ permission and pier works were completed. However, property demolition is urgently required at this location to erect Metro Rail structures.

HMR officials said in the report that a traffic diversion plan was submitted for approval at Durgam Cheruvu for construction of an underground sump and conditional approval was received. However, police officials are said to be not agreeing to a solution and want property demolition of Delhiwala Sweets.

HMR said property acquisition and demolition was required for the entry-exit arm of Metro Rail at Jubilee Hills Road No. 5, Jubilee Hills Check Post, Peddamma temple and at Madhuranagar.

Property demolition was required for the entry-exit points for the Nampally and Assembly Metro Rail Station as well as for the Malakpet Metro Rail station — where railway land is required. For this, integrated drawings had been submitted to the Railways. In Stage 6, Metro Rail works were affected on the stretch from Bata junction to Andhra Bank via Sultan Bazaar, Chikkadpally and other locations.
