State offer is better, says Telangana minister Harish

He said Opposition parties would bear the responsibility if farmers suffer losses.

Hyderabad: Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao said the state government wo-uld complete irrigation projects as planned even by depositing land compensation amount in court should there be any dispute between government and land owners over land acquisition.

This is to ensure that legal disputes do not delay the execution of projects.
He said Opposition parties would bear the responsibility if farmers suffer losses by option for compensation as per the Centre’s Land Acquisition Act, 2013.

Mr Rao said farmers would not get even Rs 2.5 lakh per acre under the Centre's Act, but the state government was offering up to Rs 6 lakh as per its GO 123. He alleged that opposition parties were raising a hue and cry over the Mallannasagar project though only seven villages faced submergence.

He asked why they remained silent when villages were submerged in Telangana due to the Polavaram and Puli-chintala projects that were constructed by the governments in undivided AP to benefit Seemandhra.

“Congress, TD and BJP leaders are adopting dual standards. They have no specific stand or direction. They keep on changing their views and arguments day after day. They should explain to the people why they are obstructing the Malla-nnasagar project, which is the lifeline of north Telangana and designed to provide a permanent solution to drought and drinking water problem in four districts,” Mr Rao said.
