BRS Failed to Secure Krishna Water Share: Bhatti

Hyderabad: Congress Legislature Party leader Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday slammed the BRS government for failing to secure Telangana's share in the Krishna river water. Bhatti, who was inspecting the Vattem project works in Bijinepalli mandal of Nagar Kurnool constituency, said that the BRS government had been "utterly useless" in its efforts to secure Telangana's share in the Krishna river water.

"The BRS government has failed to discuss with the Centre or the Tribunal to decide about the share of Krishna waters for Telangana State. Not a single project got national project status despite visiting Delhi umpteen number of times as promised in the State Reorganisation Act passed by the Parliament even after about 10 years," Bhatti said.

Though the BRS government had been boasting about the Kaleswaram project, Medigedda, Annaram, Sundilla projects, they are nothing but glorified check dams, he said.

The Congress leader also questioned the BRS government's decision to re-design the Palamur Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation project. "The project was originally designed to bring water from Jurala through gravity. It was then changed to bringing water from Srisailam and escalated the expenditure to '55,000 crore. This was done with an eye on commissions," he alleged.

Bhatti also accused the BRS government of failing to rehabilitate the displaced people under the 2013 land acquisition law. "While taking up projects, the government should rehabilitate the displaced people in a proper manner. But the BRS government has failed to do so," he said.

He demanded that the BRS government immediately take steps to secure Telangana's share in the Krishna river water. "The BRS government should also ensure that the displaced people are rehabilitated in a proper manner," he said.
